Dorothy Dunklee Gavin is a charter member of both the UMass Amherst Alumni Association and the Chancellor’s Council. She has served as Class Gift Coordinator for her 50th, 55th and 60th Class Reunions and in 1983 received the Alumni Association Special Citation for Meritorious Service to UMass. Gavin and her husband, Joseph, created the Edna Skinner Fund for which they received the Skinner Legacy Award from the Center for the Family at UMass Amherst in 1996. She received a bachelor’s degree in from UMass Amherst in 1943.
Dev V. Gupta is the founder of NewLANS, a firm based in Westford, Mass. that concentrates on high speed wireless data transmission. He has founded three companies, using his expertise in broadband and network access infrastructure technology. In 2000, Gupta created the Dev V. Gupta Professorship Fund in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He received a bachelor’s degree in technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, a master’s degree from the University of Maine and a doctorate in electrical engineering from UMass Amherst in 1977. Gupta lives in Concord, Mass.
Susan Hagedorn is a former professor and nurse practitioner at the University of Colorado. Her clinical interests over her thirty-year career included school-based health and incarcerated youth focusing on the experiences of street youth and the relationships between youth violence and substance abuse. She retired in 2007 and is currently developing her skills in documentary media studies at The New School in New York City. Hagedorn earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from UMass Amherst in 1977 and doctorate from the University of Colorado. Hagedorn serves on the UMass Amherst School of Nursing Dean’s Advisory Board and lives in New York City.
Joyce M. Hatch is vice chancellor for administration and finance at UMass Amherst. She has served as associate vice chancellor for finance and as budget director. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire, a master’s degree from Columbia University Teachers College, and a master’s degree in business administration from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. Hatch lives in Amherst.
Melvin Howard is president and chief executive officer of Sector Management and former vice chairman of Xerox. He is a founder and current chair of the advisory board of Commonwealth College at UMass Amherst. Howard created the Melvin Howard Fund, which supports scholarships or research for Commonwealth College students. In 1999 he was awarded the Chancellor's Medal. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from UMass Amherst in 1957 and a master’s in business administration from Columbia University in 1959. Howard lives in Miami Beach, Florida.
